I swear Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Serenity, VR.5) is either cursed or is the victim of some cosmic joke. ABC announced Friday that his current TV series, Day Break, is headed for the television scrap heap. This brings to eight the number of TV series featuring Baldwin that were cancelled within the first year of his joining a cast. Ouch.
The series, which according is where, “Taye Diggs (Kevin Hill) stars in an action-packed, thrilling re-imagining of the Groundhog Day concept from director Rob Bowman (The X-Files, Reign of Fire) and the writer of After the Sunset. Hopper must find the delicate balance between doing what’s important and what’s right to get through this killer day and move on to tomorrow.”
Now that groundhog has been banished to dot-com land as ABC reschedules programs like America’s Funniest Home Videos and George Lopez to cover for the dearly departed Day Break. ABC assured fans of the show that the series will air on its website – but didn’t give any details as to when that would happen.
Titled “Aegri Somnia”, this collection of 12 stories features the work of a dozen authors writing on the theme of “a sick man’s dreams” (the rough English translation of the title). The writers include Jennifer Pelland, Christopher Rowe, Nancy Fulda, Eugie Foster, Scott Nicholson, Bryn Sparks, Rhonda Eudaly, Lavie Tidhar, Cherie Priest, Angleline Hawkes, Mari Adkins and Steven Savile…
Most people who get a walk-on part in a TV show or movie are a blur in the camera. But not Los Lunas’ Martin Callahan.
Callahan literally walks into the camera frame in a scene in the Sci-Fi Channel’s “The Lost Room,” a mini-series set in New Mexico that debuted this past week on the cable television channel….

2007 Writers Guild Awards Television & Radio Nominees Announced
LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK — The Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in television and radio writing during the 2006 season. More…
According to Tuesday’s Variety, The Sci Fi channel has signed a development deal with Mark Burnett (Survivor) and Tagline Television (USA’s Psych) for Avery House, a new hour-long drama about a haunted house.
Although Burnett is best known for reality TV, this new show is definitely fiction. It revolves around a New York family that moves into a house already inhabited by less corporeal beings.
Written by Dava Savel (Emmy Award-winning writer for Ellen), the script for Avery House has been floating around NBC Universal’s Hollywood headquarters for some time. In fact the Writer’s Guild of America’s house publication, Written By magazine, recently named the script as one of the top 10 best – but unproduced – TV dramas.
According to Variety, Burnett signing on was the key to Sci Fi’s ordering of a pilot for the series.
The American Film Institute, one of the snootier non-profits in Hollywood, announced its 2006 AFI awards. Each year it picks the 10 best films and television shows, according to its 13-person jury.
None of the films chosen this year have science fiction or fantasy themes (unless you count ‘Happy Feet’ – a film about singing, dancing animated penguins).
But the TV category included NBC’s “Heroes” and SciFi’s “Battlestar Galactica.” Additionally, Showtime’s “Dexter” also made the list. Like Heroes, the show about a serial killer trying to do good, has a distinct comic-book flavor.
