How Racism Works
——————–
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
——————–
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said “I do” to?
What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer
measured up to his standards?
——————–
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain
killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
——————–
What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5?
What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
====================
If these questions reflected reality, do you think the polls would be as
close as they are?
What is it that rationalizes and minimizes a black candidate’s positive
qualities and qualifications?
You’re The Boss … which team would you hire with America facing historic
debt, two wars (to date), stumbling health care, a weak dollar, all-time
high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc?

McCain caught in bold-faced lie on Letterman last night
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjkCrfylq-E]
Wow.
Here’s what the press is saying:
Memo to the McCain campaign: Don’t blow off David Letterman.
The “Late Show” host lit into Republican presidential nominee John McCain Wednesday after Sen. McCain canceled his appearance on the show, telling Letterman he was suspending his campaign to go to Washington to deal with the nation’s financial crisis.
“I’m more than a little disappointed by this behavior,” Letterman said. “We’re suspending the campaign. Suspending it because there’s an economic crisis, or because the poll numbers are sliding?
Letterman told the audience during the taping of Wednesday’s show that McCain had called him personally to apologize for bailing. According to Letterman, McCain said he couldn’t appear because he was rushing to the airport to get back to Washington.
But midway through the broadcast, Letterman appeared to learn that the Arizona senator was actually still in New York. In fact, McCain was just a few blocks away, at the CBS News headquarters. He was preparing for a last-minute exclusive interview with Katie Couric.
Incredulous, Letterman interrupted his interview with Keith Olbermann (who had filled in as a substitute guest for McCain) to show the audience a live shot on the internal CBS News feed of a makeup artist putting the finishing touches on McCain while he waited to talk to Couric.
“He doesn’t seem to be racing to the airport, does he?” Letterman said, shouting at the television monitor: “Hey, John, I got a question! You need a ride to the airport?”
“Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?” Letterman joked.
He used the on-again, off-again appearance to crack jokes at McCain’s expense.
“You don’t suspend your campaign. This doesn’t smell right,” he said. “This isn’t the way a tested hero behaves.” And he joked: “I think someone’s putting something in his metamucil.”
And another: “What are you going to do if you’re elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We’ve got a guy like that now!”
His critique reached a high point when he learned that at the very moment Mr. McCain was supposed to be on the couch next to him being interviewed, the senator was at the CBS News center three blocks away in Manhattan, getting ready to be interviewed by the CBS News anchor, Katie Couric.
“He ditched you,” Mr. Olbermann said.
Mr. Letterman ordered his director to put on a live feed from that location, which showed Mr. McCain getting made up to go on with Ms. Couric. “He doesn’t seem to be racing to the airport,” Mr. Letterman observed.
After listening to some questions from Ms. Couric, Mr. Letterman said, “Hey, John, I’ve got a question: You need a lift to the airport?”
He then asked Mr. Olbermann if he thought this was all Mr. McCain’s fault, or whether other factors had come into play.
Conde Nast Portfolio:
Psst. Have you heard? John McCain was caught on tape with his proverbial pants down just two days before the first presidential debate and as one of the most watched elections enters its final fervent weeks.
…
The final blow came during the middle of the taping, when Letterman learned that McCain was not rushing back to Washington, as he had said, but was being prepped for an appearance on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, which like The Late Show, is produced by CBS.
Video: Sarah Palin and the Rape Kits
As reported by Bonnie Erbe in the U.S. News and World Report: “Mountains of controversy are swirling around Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s strange policy of forcing rape victims to pay for their own rape kits while she was mayor of the now-infamous town of Wasilla.”
In case you have no idea who Sarah Palin is, below is an excerpt from her profile in Dickipedia: http://www.dickipedia.org/dick.php?title=Sarah_Palin
Sarah Palin began her shockingly easy ascent from second place in a beauty pageant to potential second-in-command of the world’s largest nuclear arsenal from her birth on February 11, 1964, a birthday she shares with Burt Reynolds, Jeb Bush, Sheryl Crow, and TV’s Moesha, who also had her share of run-ins with unplanned pregnancy. Born Sarah Louise Heath in Sandpoint, Idaho, Palin grew up mostly in Wasilla, Alaska, a town that has also given the world porn actress April Flowers, star of such classics as Dead Men Don’t Wear Rubbers, Sodomania Slop Shots 9, and 100% Blowjobs 32, 26, 21, and, to a lesser extent, 18. As a student and basketball player at Wasilla High School, she earned the nickname “Sarah Barracuda,” presumably for her powerful jaws, bony web-like fins, and small smooth scales.
In 1984, Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant, a feat that sounds a lot more impressive than it is unless you’ve ever met a girl from Wasilla, few of whom have either a full set of teeth or a vacant womb. She then finished runner up in the Miss Alaska pageant, a feat that sounds a lot more impressive than it is considering the state is nearly 75% male.
After attending Hawaii Pacific University for a semester—apparently it wasn’t enough of a party school for her—Palin transferred to North Idaho College and then University of Idaho. In 1987, she received a BS in communications, with a minor in political science. That’s right, a poli-sci minor. VP candidate Joe Biden’s 30-plus-year career as U.S. senator pales in comparison, and anyone who says different is sexist.
Wall of Shame: My Neighbors who support Hate of Gay Families
The following is a list of my neighbors who have given money to support Proposition 8 in California – which would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to wed in California. These people have moved beyond mere opinion and are actively giving money to an effort to tear California families apart.
SHAME on them!

The white politician’s burden
You may be benefiting from white privilege if…:
- you can get pregnant at seventeen and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are irresponsible, pathological arbiters of social decay.
- when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you’ll “kick their fuckin’ ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.
- you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college.
- you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with fewer people than the Akron, Ohio, metro area makes you ready to potentially be President, and people don’t all piss on themselves with laughter.
- being able to say that you support the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance because “if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it’s good enough for me,” and not be immediately disqualified from holding office–since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the “under God” part wasn’t added until the 1950s.
- being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you.
- being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian.
- being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism is, as Sarah Palin has referred to it, a “light” burden.

Probably not the best McCain campaign photo
OK … the below photo was released by the McCain campaign from the Republican convention.

Something tells me Sarah Palin wasn’t the only thing not vetted properly.
Oops! Caught on Tape: GOP pundits say “it’s over” for McCain
Ever wonder what those MSNBC commentators say during the time the station goes to tape – or live speeches – or commercials? Here’s a taste.
Die-hard Republican commentators Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy savage John McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin as his running mate on the very night she was scheduled to speak at the national convention.
In the the below video, the anchor throws the show to a Republican National Convention speech by the Governor from Utah – but the sound guys just keep recording the pundits back in the studio when they think they are speaking privately among themselves. Oops.
And it’s not good news from these pro-Republican experts.
Watch it for yourself:
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrG8w4bb3kg]
- Murphy (Advisor to Jeb Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger) : I come out of the blue swing-state governor world – Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mit Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean … these guys, it’s how you win a Texas race – just run it up. And, it’s not gonna work. But…
- Noonan (Speech writer for Ronald Reagan): It’s over.
….
- Anchor: Is McCain’s pick insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson? (The very popular Republican Senator from Texas)
- Noonan: I saw Kay this morning.
- Anchor: Is she (Palin) the most qualified woman?
- Noonan: The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives …
- Murphy: I totally Agree with you.
- Anchor: What narrative?
- Noonan: … and youthfulness in the picture. Every time Republicans do that – because that’s not where they live and that’s not what they’re good at – they blow it.
- Murphy: You know what’s really the worst thing about it (the choice of Palin and VP running mate)? The greatness of McCain is “no cynicism” – and it’s cynical.
- Anchor: And as you called it – gimmicky.
- Murphy: Yep.
Wow. Another bad day to be a Republican.
